Battle for the Paddle

One of the things that makes college football so fun are the rivalries and so many of them include a trophey From brown jugs to Paul Bunyan s axe and even a wooden paddle And that s what U-Mary and MSU-Moorhead are playing for this weekend The fourth ever Battle for the Paddle is set for Saturday and the first three have belonged to the Marauders but not without a fight In fact last year s battle needed overtime Myron Schulz Its the first thing I told my players this week is that every game has been down to the wire and has been close and exciting and the thing about it these are teams that are kind of in the same boat They ve been here a little longer but they came out of NAIA and went D-2 and they have some of those same resources and its always been a great game The Marauders are coming off a win at Concordia-St Paul but they are a little banged up with offensive lineman Cameron Docktor and defensive lineman Seth Jorgenson out with injuries The Dragons have just one win this season They ll try for their second while U-Mary tries for their fourth on Saturday at 1 00 p m central
