Boating Rules and Certification

Whether you re an experienced boater or a young jet-skiier Everyone should know the rules on water safety when heading to the river And a new website may help keep the rules fresh in your mind this summer It s called andamp quot boater-exam comandamp quot This new website is a tool to educate boaters online rather than waiting for workbooks in the mail and to get your test results back for certification andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t north-dakotaandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt North Dakotaandamp lt aandamp gt Game and Fish water safety coordinators say this will help the younger generation and boaters who want faster results Nancy Boldt Boat Water Safety Coordinator andamp quot If you re in andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t minot-ndandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt Minotandamp lt aandamp gt and you want to go boating this weekend you re worried about me sending you the book you reading the book getting it back to me getting the test you can actually take it at two in the morning if you want to andamp quot She says the certification is required for kids ages 12 to 16 who operate a jetski And you can get a discount on boating insurance with it Boldt says there has been one boating accident so far this year on the river but the peak of accidents usually happen in July and August She says most boating accidents are caused by human-error and could be avoided with a refresher course on the rules andamp quot Some say I ve been boating my whole life that doesn t mean you know everything some you may have known before and got into bad habits andamp quot They re crossing in front of each other they don t realize if you re in the right of each other who gives way they figure the fastest and biggest boat takes it and that s what we see sometimes A lot of it s common sense courtesy needs to be reinforced patience andamp quot Studying for the online course is free It only costs money to get your certification card For more information you can visit www boaterexam com
