Pirates targeting Navajo Lake
BE PICTURING THE WATERS OFF THE COAST OF SOMALIA BUT WE VE FOUND NEW MEXICO HAS ITS OWN FORM OF PIRATES THAT CRUISE AROUND ON BOATS -- LOOKING TO PLUNDER WHAT THEY CAN AUSTIN REED IS LIVE IN FARMINGTON WITH A LOOK AT THE PROBLEM -- AUSTIN DEPUTIES TELL ME THE PIRATES AREN T HIJACKING BOATS OR TAKING HOSTAGES BUT THEY ARE STEALING WHATEVER THEY CAN do you leave your doors un-locked I did But I won t now When I left my boat here earlier but I won t do it no more FROM BOATERS nats motor TO FISHERMEN jeeze I mean it s 600 bux for a good decent rod that s not cheap TO CAMPERS YOU MIGHT THINK TWICE ABOUT LEAVING VALUABLES UNATTENDED AROUND NAVAJO LAKE we have a group of people going out looking for items that are left in vehicles WITH SUMMER RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER THE SAN JUAN COUNTY SHERIFF S OFFICE IS WARNING PEOPLE ABOUT THIEVES LIKE PIRATES -- THEY CRUISE AROUND IN BOATS AND THEN GO ASHORE TO LOOK FOR LOOT they re grabbing fishing poles tents Anything left in the vehicles while people are maybe down fishing THIS GROUP OF FISHERMAN WHO ARE NO STRANGERS TO THE NAVAJO LAKE WHERE A MAJORITY OF THESE CRIMES HAVE BEEN TAKING PLACE SO FAR AREN T SURPRISED We ve had some people that we know of who have had their waiters disappear on them for one thing SO NOW THESE GUYS ARE TAKING PRECAUTIONS AND THEY RE WARNING OTHER OUTDOOR PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME I would suggest just lock everything up as tight as possible DEPUTIES AND PARK RANGERS SAY THERE WILL BE EXTRA PATROLS ALONG THOSE BOAT DOCKS THIS SUMMER LIVE IN FARMINGTON AUSTIN REED EYEWITNESS NEWS 4 CONSTRUCTION
