Missouri River Rising Fast
An ice jam on the Missouri River is causing flooding problems for the Fox Island area in south Bismarck The road to the Fox Island Boat Ramp closed this morning because water was flowing from the river across the road Fox Island residents have been asked to evacuate the area as a precautionary measure Officials say the sharp bends in the Missouri River make it easy for large chunks of ice to get jammed and stop the river from flowing pushing into low lying areas That s exactly what happened to Linda Robinson who says the water rose four feet in less than three hours Linda Robinson Fox Island Resident andamp quot This morning there was no water at those trees An hour after we moved the furniture the pots were getting wet and now you can see it has continued to progress since morning andamp quot Meanwhile - the U S Corp of Engineers is cutting releases from the Garrison Dam to ease flooding The releases will be cut from 11 000 to 6 000 cubic feet per second And will stay that way until the river drops back to near normal levels
