Ice Jams Causing Problems for Fox Island

An ice jam on the andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t missouri-riverandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt Missouri Riverandamp lt aandamp gt is causing flooding problems for the Fox Island area in south Bismarck The road to the Fox Island Boat Ramp closed this morning because water was flowing from the river all the way across the road Fox Island residents have been asked to evacuate the area as a precautionary measure There are many sharp bends in the Missouri River which can cause ice chunks to get caught up and basically stop the river from flowing That s pushing it into any low lying area including peoples yards And it s all happened very fast one resident says the water rose four feet in three hours Linda Robinson is watching the water very closely she is tempted to start sand bagging but for now is waiting it out Robinson says they raised their bank two feet after the 1997 flood so she believes they are in better shape this time around Meanwhile - the U S Corp of Engineers is cutting releases from the andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t garrison-damandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt Garrison Damandamp lt aandamp gt to ease flooding The releases will be cut from 11 000 to 6 000 cubic feet per second And will stay that way until the river drops back to mmore normal levels However the water lower releases will take about two days to reach the Bismarck area Late this afternoon andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t bismarck-policeandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt Bismarck Policeandamp lt aandamp gt closed Riverwood Drive to Fox Island
