Bridge Drops On Monday
Part of the old Liberty Memorial Bridge will be blown up Monday October 6 The West section of the bridge is schedule to drop at 10 in the morning Now workers are going through the bridge doing what is called preburning This is where certain spots are burned to make it an easier drop Explosive charges will then be used to break the section of the bridge into smaller pieces Jeff Dahn with Total Construction says when the bridge drops it will be like a loaf of bread What we have to do is calculate the sizes of the pieces we need to drop to make it smaller so when they do drop they do fall far enough away from the new structure Dahn said Once the section of bridge is down workers have twenty-four hours to pull it out of the river During this time the river channel will be closed to all boat traffic If you want to see the bridge drop there will be a restricted area set up on the land and water one thousand feet around the bridge To get a more detailed map of the restricted area you can log onto www memorialbridge info
