Dan's Destinations - Metigoshe

Dan Erdmann s been traveling all over the area the past couple months introducing us to a few affordable getaways This time he s making a run for the border to a nearby body of water with plenty to see and do He tells us more in this week s Dan s Destinations Dan Erdmann KX News Today s destination is Lake Metigoshe State Park It s one of North Dakota s hottest weekend attractions and although the summer may be coming to an end activities go year-round here at the park Larry Hagen Park Manager Most of the people that come here are either going to be on the lake doing recreation whether it s jet skiing skiing fishing or a great number of them bring their bikes with and they re hiking and biking on the trail system just enjoying themselves and a lot of those activities are connected right with the learning center that we ve got So the combination of that gives a family a great opportunity to come out and spend time together Dan Erdmann KX News The park has 129 campsites 3 4 of which come equipped with water and electrical hookups There s a beach for swimming canoe and kayak rentals and all sorts of activities going on throughout the summer including weekly interpretive programs If you don t have a camper or a tent you can rent one of 3 cabins for less then 100 a night Another facility available to rent is the park s dining hall which is great for reunions and other gatherings Dan Erdmann KX News There are also miles of scenic trails winding around the park that allow you to see the wide variety of plant an wildlife offered here at Metigoshe Dan Erdmann KX News And as once again the park has plenty to do in the summer months but it s also a busy place after the ground turns white Larry Hagen Park Manager We re a complete year-round operation We have the typical activities as far as the campground and the boat ramp and picnic areas and those things but once fall starts a lot of great bird watching opportunities go right into winter Then it becomes the skiing snow shoeing we re right on the state snowmobile trail It s a complete year-round activity Dan Erdmann KX News And all activities come with a very small price tag Admission to the park is only 5 per day for each vehicle Larry Hagen Park Manager It s very very inexpensive for a family or an individual to come out and enjoy themselves Dan Erdmann KX News So if you re looking for that farewell to summer get-a-way Lake Metigoshe might be one of your best and most affordable options The only hard part is once you get here you might not want to leave From Lake Metigoshe State Park Dan Erdmann KX News In traveling to his destination Dan drove 190 miles round-trip and spent about 36 dollars on gas Park admission is 5 dollars per vehicle and a single campsite rental is 15 dollars Total cost of this one night stay is about 56 dollars Hagen says reservations are full for labor day weekend but you can still make other reservations by calling the number on your screen
