1st Annual Missouri River Safety Day
School is out and its time for summer For some that could mean going out on the river State and local officials held the first annual Missouri River Safety Day today in Mandan Safety Prevention Learning and Summertime Happeningsor SPLASH for shortteaches boaters of all ages different lifesaving techniques The event streses the rules of the water NANCY BOLDT BOAT AND WATER SAFTEY COORDINATOR North Dakota GAME AND FISH 9000 boats registered between Bismarck and Mandan and so the traffic on the river is getting to be increasing every year and so there is just some safety factors we want people to be aware of and one is know the rules while you re out there Participants made life saving reach and throw jugs that could help save someone who is drowning They also learned about hypothermia how a life jacket should fitand even had a chance to get on the water Boaters could also take a test to examine their knowledge about the rules of the water Nancy Boldt Boat and Water Safety Coordinator North Dakota Game and Fish We think sometimes just reminding people of what the rules are out there will make it a safer place State law requires kids ages 12 to 15 who want to operate a boat or personal watercraft with at least a 10 horsepower motor to first pass the state s Boating Basics Course
