Snow-pack to bring plenty water to resevoirs and lakes


GREAT SNOWPACK THIS WINTER WILL LEAD TO GREAT RUNOFF THIS SPRING TODAY STATE OFFICIALS TOLD OUR TY SHESKY WE COULD SEE THE BEST RIVER CONDITIONS IN 30 YEARS MOUNTAIN SNOWPACK IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO IS AT 150 PERCENT OF NORMAL ALL THE SNOW THERE MEANS GREAT SPRING RUNOFF HERE IN MANY OF NEW MEXICO S RIVERS AND LAKES 11 19 Craig One of the larger things that we have is going to be our white water rafting canoeing and kayaking this summer because we re going to have some of the best runoffs that we ve had in years past IN FACT THERE ARE ONLY TWO MAJOR NEW MEXICO RIVERS THAT ARE EXPECTED TO SEE BELOW NORMAL RUNOFF THIS SPRING THE MIMBRES AND THE RIO HONDO LAKES AND RESERVOIRS IN THE RIO GRANDE SAN JUAN AND PECOS BASINS WILL ALL SEE ABOVE- AVERAGE RUN-OFF THIS SPRING AND ELEPHANT BUTTE IS EXPECTED TO BE NEAR 50-PERCENT CAPACITY BY JULY 4TH A BIG IMPROVEMENT OVER PRIOR YEARS 21 23 For the first year in five years the lake s going to be full all the way up through the Narrows -- which is a very popular boating spot IRONICALLY HIGH FIRE DANGER IS EXPECTED WITH THESE HIGH WATER LEVELS DUE TO BELOW AVERAGE PRECIPITATION IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS ESPECIALLY IN SOUTHERN AND EASTERN PARTS OF THE STATE 23 56 Todd Haines So I would ask anybody to pay attention to the specific areas they re going in Contact local agencies and resources and see what the fire danger is TY SHESKY EYEWITNESS NEWS 4 STATE PARK OFFICIALS ARE EXPECTING A BUSY TOURISM SEASON DUE TO THE HIGH
