Keir Weimer sentenced to 2-6 years in prison for manslaughter
In July of 2006 Keir Weimer was at the helm of a speed boat on Fourth Lake when it crashed into Alger Island That accident killed Tiffany Heitkamp of Syracuse Today Weimer received a prison sentence of two to six years It was an extremely emotional morning for family and friends of Tiffany Heitkamp as they sat and listened to Judge Patrick Kirk hand down Weimer s sentence

Marina Breaks Ground Near Garrison
After being left high and dry for years Fort Stevenson State Park is tapping back into the water of Lake Sakakawea with a new marina Ground is broken on the more than 10-million dollar project earlier today It should be ready for use by 2009 Shaun Sipma has the story Nat Sound It was ground that was broken today at Fort Stevenson State park but it s the water that s been sorely missed Senator Byron Dorgan D North Dakota This very large lake is a terrific natural resource for our state but this natural resource doesn t provide full flower benefits for this state unless you have access to it The fact is we haven t had adequate access to it Since the late 1990 s drought in the Upper Missouri Basin devastated Lake Sakakawea dropping levels to record lows and leaving many once active boat ramps and marina s high and dry Senator Kent Conrad D North Dakota The pictures that were taken that were in all the news media showed the marina high and dry but it was impossible to show was how far the water had receded and it was really a stark picture Now that picture is going to be repainted A new Marina will be built here at Garrison Bay less than a mile west of the old one in De Trobrian Bay that is now landlocked Robert Michaels Army Corps of Engineers But this new Fort Stevenson will provide lake access at a much lower elevation if drought continues if drought conditions continues as expected Douglass Prchal ND State Dept of Recreation It does enhance and replace visitor service that has been absent for a number of years and the success of the park is directly related to enhance facilities the marina being one of those Paul Schlichting Garrison Chamber President I always ask Dick what park visitation was for the year If he said it s down 20 percent that s what the numbers are at my business and that means about 600 000 dollars And that s just one business in Garrison 10 million dollars in federal funds has been secured to pay for the project which should wrap up and be open to boats the summer of 2009 Governor John Hoeven R North Dakota The Friends of Lake Sakakawea really had a vision on this thing and pursued it and stayed with it and worked on it the right way all the way through Terry Fleck Friend of Sakakawea I d just like to think this is just the beginning of many many good things to happen on this big lake At Fort Stevenson State Park Shaun Sipma KX News Planning for the new marina began in 2004

SOME GRIM ECONOMIC NEWS TONIGHT FOR THOUSANDS OF NEW MEXICO FAMILIES -- THEY RE AMONG THE NATION S HARDEST HIT WHEN IT COMES TO RISING GAS PRICES STUART DYSON IS LIVE AT RIO GRANDE AND I-40 NEAR THE BOTTOM OF YET ANOTHER LIST SOME OF OUR STATE S COUNTIES ARE AMONG THE WORST IN THE NATION WHEN IT COMES TO THE SHARE OF FAMILY INCOME THAT GOES STRAIGHT INTO THE GAS TANK OUT Q STILL ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE HERE S HOW IT WORKS - POOR FAMILIES PAY A HIGHER SHARE OF THEIR FAMILY INCOME FOR GAS - AND OUR STATE HAS SOME OF THE POOREST FAMILIES IN THE COUNTRY - MANY OF THEM IN RURAL AREAS WHERE YOU HAVE TO DRIVE MORE TO GET FROM POINT A TO POINT B TAKE LUNA COUNTY - DEMING AREA - MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME ABOUT 22 THOUSAND DOLLARS - PAYING A LITTLE OVER TWO GRAND FOR GAS THIS YEAR - THAT S ALMOST TEN PER CENT OF THE AVERAGE FAMILY S BUDGET LUNA COUNTY IS NUMBER 29 ON THE OIL PRICE INFORMATION SERVICE STUDY OF 3 THOUSAND AMERICAN COUNTIES - BUT CUSTOMERS ALL OVER THE STATE ARE FEELING THE GAS PAINS I m a single mom - I have two girls - I ve got to travel into town - I take one to school - and to work - so a good chunk of my income is going to gas I m cutting down probably half what i used to drive - so i guess my greenhouse effect is half what it used to be Especially coming from Belen I have to fill this up two times a week to get back and forth to school just two days a week - and we re looking at about eighty bucks a week HERE S ANOTHER COUNTY IN THE WORST ONE HUNDRED - CATRON - MEDIAN INCOME 25 GRAND - WELL OVER TWO GRAND ON A YEARS WORTH OF GAS - ALMOST NINE PER CENT OF THE AVERAGE FAMILY S INCOME MORA COUNTY UP NORTH IN THE SAME BOAT AS CATRON - THE AVERAGE FAMILY SPENDING ALMOST NINE PER CENT OF ITS INCOME AT THE GAS PUMP IN THE ALBUQUERQUE AREA THE AVERAGE FAMILY S GAS BITE IS SMALLER - ONLY FIVE PER CENT - BUT STILL ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE GOT THE GAS PUMP BLUES - CONSIDER LOS ALAMOS - MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME OVER 80 GRAND - LESS THAN THREE PER CENT FOR GAS AT RIO GRANDE AND I-40 SDEWN4 THE RIO RANCHO SCHOOL BOARD IS
