Canoe-polo offers Iranian woman a sporting chance


After the Islamic revolution in Iran it was forbidden for women to take part in sporting activities as it would have brought them into direct contact with men be they umpires or mere spectators The strict Islamic dress code which obliges women to cover their heads and bodies in public added an extra obstacle Many sport federation rules forbid competitors from wearing veils or all body clothing which effectively excludes Iranian women from taking part in international events Canoe-polo offers one way around the rules
