Gone Fishing GPS
It s time for this week s Gone Fishing report This week Greg Schoneck shows us how to program your GPS system Greg Schoneck You know the GPS is probably one of the handiest tools we have in our boat Hi and welcome to Gone Fishing I m Greg Schoneck Today we re gonna talk about how to enter numbers into your GPS so that you can go to that exact location What you re looking for on your GPS unit is your wave point button WPT Hit that one time we re gonna enter a new number so we re just gonna go to New we ll hit enter and then we re gonna create a new number from an entered position So it s just enter one more time It brings up the screen where you can name your GPS location You can enter your latitude north your longitude west Once you got these numbers in here you can just go to navigation and navigate directly to where you want to go It s pretty simple Alright Keep in mind the GPS is probably one of the handiest tools we have for fishing here out on Lake Sakakawea There are so many different things that you can have in your boat and I used to think that you could live without a GPS and I just used it occasionally Anymore I use my GPS every day I m out here on the water Try and do this before you come onto the lake Get those numbers entered into your GPS unit while you re at home sitting in your driveway You can just jump in your boat and put those numbers in Once you get here to the lake you ll know for certain you re on that spot Wow what a beauty Remember those GPS units they can make or break a day take time to learn how to enter those numbers Until next time I m Greg Schoneck and I m Gone Fishing RUN COMMERCIAL BREAK OUT
The Face of Homelessness
What does a homeless person look like Fact is you may have come face to face with homelessness and not even known it That s because most of the people considered homeless in our area are considered hidden homeless Debbie Kuehn has more Safely tucked into bed on a chilly February night She slept peacefully unaware that her world was about to drastically change Erica Minot My neighbor next door to me woke me up and said there was a fire It was a nightmare come true 29-year-old Erica suddenly realized she was homeless not living on the street in a cardboard box or sleeping in her car homeless but Erica had become a member of Minot s hidden homeless population Wendy Rupert Vegas Motel Mgr I was a single mom for quite a long time and I know the struggles you face everday And sometimes it s hard to make ends meet and you just need a helping hand A stroke of luck brought her here to the Vegas Motel where she was given a bed in exchange for making some beds Erica is not the first person to find refuge here Over the past few years manager Wendy Rupert has opened her heart to many Wendy We ve had over 30 people that we ve helped in the last three years that have been homeless Most of it has been temporary A nd they work for a wh ile they get back on their feet And I have three that have continued to work and they ve been valuable employees for the past year 19-year-old Tiffany found herself in the same boat folloiwing a disagreement with her parents Tiffany She put me up for a few months and I ve been working for her basically And she helped me get an apartment basically And I m still working here Now as the Minot Homeless Coalition joins with other agencies in a nationwide effort to combat homelessness Rupert is uping the anti She s challenging other local businesses to the same Wendy From my perspective there are some challenges in employing a homeless person and challenges in wodking with a homeless person and I wanted to bring that perspective to the table Rupert says if communty leaders really want to make a dent in the problem they need to do more than talk It s been a rude awakening for Erica and Tiffany But when we come to terms witih the idea that homelessness is everyone s problem That could be an eye opener for many of us The community is receiving some federal money to help combat homelessness but in order to receive that money a strategic plan must first be in place Leaders say they are currently working on that plan and hope to have it done soon

Gone Fishing - 8/22/07
In this week s Gone Fishing Greg Schoneck shows us the importance of keeping your batteries charged Greg Schoneck Gone Fishing Hi and welcome to Gone Fishing I m Greg Schoneck What could you possibly use a plug in for on your boat Well today on Gone Fishing we re gonna talk about just that We re looking at a four bank charger here in my boat Now a good reason to have one of these is to get the most life from your battery they need to be re-charged as soon as possible after using them Even if you re not using your electric trolling motor during the day your battery is constantly being discharged I have got so much equipment in my boat anymore I ve got two depth finders running I got GPS going I ve got live wells running so with all of this equipment your main charged battery is gonna drain down as well as your other batteries just over time Keep in mind even if you re not using your electric trolling motor you know there are so many things running each day and if you re like me and you spend much time trolling you re big engine may not be able to charge your battery It s important again the sooner you can charge those batteries the better it s gonna be for the battery life so keep in mind plug that battery charger in as soon as you get home A four bank charger a three bank charger any of those on board chargers will make life a lot simpler Lets get this fish in here I think this one s going to the frying pan All right Be sure to plug in those batteries as soon as you can The sooner you charge them the longer they ll last Till next time I m Greg Schoneck and I m Gone Fishing

Corps Meetings
The US Army Corps of Engineers is working on a new plan for the land surrounding Lake Sakakawea Tonight the corps will be presenting a rough draft of the land master plan in Bismarck This report does not talk about lake levels It talks about which area will be designated for recreation where boat ramps will be located and which areas will be set aside for wildlife It s been thirty years since the land plan has been updated Julie Price with the Corps says several groups have worked together to come up with a plan that works for everyone Julie Price US Army Corps of Engineers During the recent several year drought recreation has been harder and harder for us to keep up with just because of the drought and the low water conditions So I bet that a lot of people will be concerned about how they can recreate and why things have changed Tonights meeting goes until 7-30 at the Bismarck Public Library The Army Corps of engineers will be having similar meetings in Dickinson on Tuesday New Town and Williston on Wednesday and Minot on Thursday If you cannot make any of the meetings you can call the Corps at 1-888-835-5971
