Fishing Camp on Sakakawea


Fishing is a favorite pastime for many North Dakotans including kids A summer fishing camp near Garrison helps get youth interested in the sport Karna Lillebo has the story from Camp of the Cross Landon Schmidt has this catch on camera and it s one to be proud of Brian Sailer Fishing Instructor That s a nice Walleye Take it easy take it easy That a boy That a boy Landon caught this four-pound walleye on Lake Sakakawea Brian Sailer Fishing Instructor 24 24 1 2 He s taking part in a 6-day camp at Camp of the Cross Karna Lillebo KX News What do you like best about fishing Landon Schmidt Camper The thrill when the fish is on your hook and you re reeling it in The 16 campers all boys this year are spending a great deal of their time out on the water thanks to volunteers Brian Sailer Fishing Instructor I just love to fish and if these kids can get hooked on fishing it might just keep them out of other trouble We didn t have a whole lot of luck out on the boat with our instructor Brian Sailer only two fish in two hoursLandon s walleye and the drum fish I reeled in Brian Sailer Fishing Instructor Oh it s a big old drum It didn t look like anyone else was having much better luck But no matter how many the boys catch they ll all take home the same amount of fish at the end of the week Nancy Proper Camp Volunteer They do not keep just their fish All the fish are put together Everyday then we have 16 ziplock bags and the fish are divided equally so every boy who is here this year will be going home with bags of frozen filleted fish The boys won t just be going home with fish They ll be going home with stories and new-found knowledge Nancy Proper Camp Volunteer Hopefully they ll go home and they will share this with their parents and the excitement will overflow and that they will teach their parents some new skills also Near Garrison Karna Lillebo KX News
